How to work with an AI concierge: getting the right result from Parlo in one message

6 min read

An AI concierge is not a search box and not a human agent. Say the four things every order needs, let it ask when it is unsure, read the quote before you confirm, and know what to do when it gets something wrong.

People bring two wrong models to an AI concierge. One is the search box: type two words and expect a list. The other is the call-centre agent: explain your whole situation and expect them to work it out. Parlo is neither. It is good at one thing: turning a clear request into a quoted, confirmed, paid order. The habits below get you there in one message instead of four. They apply to the chat concierge and, with small changes, to the calling app.

Say the four things every order needs

A top-up needs the operator, the amount, the recipient’s number and, if it is not obvious, the country. A gift card needs the brand, the value, the recipient’s email and the country the card must work in. A flight needs the two cities, the date and how many people. If all of it is in the first message, the next message is a quote.

  • Weak: “I want to top up a phone in Morocco.” Three questions follow.
  • Strong: “Top up 100 MAD on Inwi for +212 6 12 34 56 78.” A quote follows.

Write the phone number with its country code. Write amounts with a currency, in the currency you mean: “100 dirhams” and “10 euros of credit” are different orders, and the concierge will not convert one into the other on its own.

Let it ask

When something is missing or ambiguous, the concierge asks rather than guesses. That is deliberate: a guessed recharge goes to the wrong number and cannot be recalled. Answer the question it asked, in one line, and do not restate the whole order; it remembers what you already said.

Read the quote before you say yes

A quote names the product, what the recipient receives, and the price you pay. Check the three against what you meant, especially the recipient amount on a data bundle, where “3 GB for 14 days” and “3 GB for 30 days” are different products at different prices. Your confirmation is the moment the order becomes real; before it, nothing has been charged, and you can change anything.

If the supplier’s price moves between the quote and your confirmation, the concierge re-quotes and asks again. It will not charge a price you did not see.

One order per conversation thread

You can order several things in a row, but finish one before starting the next. “Also send 50 to my brother” in the middle of confirming your mother’s top-up is where mistakes come from. Confirm, wait for the link, then start the next request.

Write in your own language

The concierge replies in the language you write in. Mixing languages in one message is fine. What confuses it is the same thing that confuses a person: an amount without a currency, a number without a country, a brand name that exists in several countries with no country named.

When it gets something wrong

  • Before you confirmed:say what is wrong. “No, Orange not Inwi.” It re-quotes.
  • It says a product is unavailable: that is usually true at that moment for that supplier. Ask for the nearest alternative; it has several suppliers for most corridors and will try another.
  • After payment, the recharge did not arrive: say so in the same chat. A failure on the supplier or operator side is refunded by the original payment route within one business day. If it did arrive but on a different number, that number was in the quote you confirmed, which is why reading the quote matters.
  • It refuses something: the refusal comes with the reason. The common one is a request to send money or transfer balance, which Parlo cannot do; the credit guide explains why and what it offers instead.

What it is not for

The concierge is not a general chatbot. It will not write your emails or answer trivia, and it does not pretend to. Asking it for things outside its five capabilities wastes your time more than its. Asking it exactly for one of the five, with the details above, is the fastest way to buy any of them.

For the calling app

The same rules hold when the AI is on the phone for you: name the business or the kind of business, the outcome you want, and the constraints (“Thursday after five, not Friday”). The app shows you every commitment before agreeing to it on the call, so the confirmation step is the same as in chat, only spoken.
